Access the new LIBERSPAN respiratory protection device against any airborne infection, including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) virus. Take part in the briefing - this is important for the implementation of the project!

LIBERSPAN is an innovative disinfectant device that protects doctors (and not only them) from any infection transmitted by airborne droplets by 99.9% without significant costs for hospitals to purchase disposable personal respiratory protection equipment.
LIBERSPAN is more effective than respirators and disinfects not only inhaled but also exhaled air.
LIBERSPAN is reusable, does not pollute the environment with used materials, and the service life of the
device is measured in years.

Why and who needs it?

The impetus for the development of the proposed air disinfection device was a number of reasons, such as:

-periodically arising shortage of high degree protection respirators;

-high mortality of medical workers, due to the weak efficiency of respirators, which are directly dependent on the very short "life" cycle of a disposable respirator and the inconvenience of its use;

-the high cost of disposable respirators, which is a heavy burden for medical organizations that provide assistance to the sick population, both in terms of funding and in terms of the need to create large stocks of disposable protective equipment for doctors during long-term epidemics;

- the lack of a respiratory infectious protection device on the market that allows a physician to work without the danger of infecting others if he is at risk for an asymptomatic, but contagious variant of the development of the disease;

- the lack of reusable highly effective means of respiratory infectious protection on the market, i.e. there is no alternative to the mass use of disposable respirators in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic;

- environmental hazard due to the need to dispose of millions of used respirators.

If, due to circumstances, you constantly encounter patients with a new coronavirus infection COVID-19, for example, you work in the "red zone" or you work in the ambulance team, who is on the road to potentially sick people with a new coronavirus infection, then this project is being implemented for you!

If you have chronic diseases or your immunity is weakened and you want to protect yourself from any airborne infection, then this project is also for you!

Please read and fill out the questionnaire, as it is very important for the release of a new device that ensures the safety of doctors who work in the "red zone" or during any contacts of doctors (and not only them) with those infected by airborne droplets!

Our team has developed a new mobile device LIBERSPAN for personal disinfection of breathing air. The LIBERSPAN device completely disinfects the air inhaled and exhaled by humans. The efficiency of the destruction of such a resistant virus as COVID-19 in the device is more than 99% and this is ensured by 1.5 times more energy passed through the breathing air than it is necessary for the destruction of the virus (if necessary, delivering energy for the destruction of the RNA of the COVID virus 19 to 21 millijoules / cm2, in LIBERSPAN an energy of 37 mJ / cm2 reaches the virus).

The principles of operation of the device do not contain any unique method, we have combined several existing known technologies into one - a new device of an original design. Also we have tried to calculate mathematically its possible efficiency, for which we processed the parameters on an aerosimulator. As a result, we have obtained a device that is highly effective in causing the destruction* of all known highly pathogenic infectious agents in the air for breathing.

* destruction means the destruction of RNA (or DNA) of the apparatus of an infectious agent, after which it becomes incapable of reproduction, that is, completely harmless to people.

what is the new air disinfection device?

LIBERSPAN

Appearance of the device for air disinfection
The device is made in the form of a backpack with two air ducts and a face half mask. One air duct is intended for supplying the disinfected inhaled air, the second air duct - for disinfecting the exhaled air. The face half mask has inhalation and exhalation valves that prevent air from mixing in the air ducts.
Power supply of the LIBERSPAN device
The power supply of the device is provided by the battery (a), the capacity of which is sufficient for a period of about 3 hours of continuous operation of the device. As shown in the picture, changing the battery does not involve anything complicated and is done in a few seconds, literally "on the go". b - replaceable filter for rough air cleaning from dust
interior of the LIBERSPAN device
1 - two ultraviolet bactericidal ozone-free amalgam lamps, 6 w each;
2 - internal air channels providing isolation of "exhalation" from "inhalation", made of quartz glass, transmitting ultraviolet radiation spectrum at 254 nm;
3 - channels of the inhalation chamber, the air movement along which occurs along an artificially created turbulent trajectory;
4 - device control unit, with a display showing:
- the remaining charge in the battery expressed in minutes;
- the moment of failure of parts of the device (lamp, microprocessor board, triggering of the ozone sensor), the device is also equipped with an audible alarm and a sensor that takes into account the time of generation of ultraviolet lamps in hours (from 0 to 8000 hours)

We compared respirators and LIBERSPAN by their characteristics

Specifications

disposable or reusable?
respirators FFP2/FFP3 (N95/N95+)

-disposable respirators, expensive with regular use;
- the time of using one respirator is about 6 hours when working in the "red zone"

LIBERSPAN

-liberspan - reusable device, becomes cheaper than respirators after 20 days of regular use;
-liberspan has a service life of more than 5000 hours of use, after which you just need to change the irradiator in the device and, possibly, replace the rechargeable battery with a reduced energy resource

does it require disposal after use?

-respirators are not reused, must be disposed of as class B medical waste, cannot be recycled

-liberspan does not require special disposal, recirculating processing is possible after several years of continuous use

have difficulty breathing while wearing a protective device?

- there are difficulties with regular use, since respirators are not made of silicone, they irritate the skin, you have to breathe in respirators with some effort, since they mechanically filter air when you inhale

- breathing through the liberspan is free, since the movement of air is not impeded by mechanical biofilters

does it irritate the skin of the face when used?

- frequent damage to the skin of the face due to respirators with regular use, since respirators are not made of silicone and irritate the skin

-liberspan half mask is made of silicone and does not irritate the skin when used

What is the effectiveness of disinfection of inhaled air?

-respirators of FFP2(N95) class have a filtration efficiency of up to 95% of infectious agents in the form of an aerosol for several hours;
-respirators of FFP3 (N95 +) class have an efficiency higher than 95% to 99% for several hours of continuous single use;
- the effectiveness of respirators decreases in direct proportion to the time of its continuous use;
-in practice, the effectiveness of respirators is lower than the declared values, since the respirator does not fit tightly to the skin, the face sweats in it due to breathing resistance and air can enter through the gaps between the skin and the respirator

-liberspan effectively destroys infectious agents at the level of 99 +% during the entire period of use without reducing the effectiveness even after several months or years of its use;
-liberspan is used with a mask made of medical silicone, which adheres tightly to the skin of the face and does not create cracks when used

does it protect others from possible infection if the person using the device is infected? (does the exhaled air disinfect?)

-the vast majority of respirators do not filter the air exhaled by a person;
-in models of respirators without an exhalation valve (i.e. with an exhalation filter) breathing is even more difficult mechanically and the service life of a double-sided respirator is half the time (2-3 hours in the red zone)

-liberspan effectively disinfects the air exhaled by a person, while there are no mechanical difficulties during exhalation, i.e. exhale, like inhalation through the device, is free

what are the dimensions and weight?

-respirators have insignificant dimensions, but for continuous operation in conditions of the surrounding airborne infection, a supply of respirators is required;
-respirators have an insignificant weight

-liberspan has the following dimensions: 30x25x13cm, it is fastened behind the back in the form of a backpack;
-liberspan has a weight of up to 3 kg

additional needs when using?

- for long-term use, only a supply of disposable respirators is required;
- to change the respirator, a person needs to leave the "red zone" and disinfect hands and face

-liberspan has a battery that provides about 3 hours of continuous operation;
- liberspan comes with the separate charger and a second battery, which can be charged from any power source (110/220 / 12V) during the operation of the first battery;
-liberspan has the ability to work directly from the power grid;
-to change the liberspan battery, there is no need to leave the "red zone"

what have we done? what stage is the project at?

We have completed:
-mathematical modeling and printing of the first prototype of the device (MVP), it is fully functional and usable and has served as a confirmation of our primary prerequisites for work;
-the priority of the application for a utility model was obtained under the PCT international patenting system;
- design and engineering of the second prototype, its efficiency was assessed on an aerosimulator, readiness for the stage of industrial production of LIBERSPAN devices has been achieved.
We are at the stage:
- of making a decision on the nature of further work on the project;
-search for funding sources for laboratory testing and mass production devices.
We need:
- to conduct a mass briefing (discussion) of the project with potential users of the LIBERSPAN device - doctors who are actively involved in the fight against the new coronavirus infection. For this, it is very important for us to collect the opinions of doctors about the project!

    - I never thought that simple, at first glance, LIBERSPAN project could have so many difficulties. I would like to improve the safety of doctors, because many of my colleagues are sick and many of them are no longer with us. Of course the epidemic will end, but how we fight it and by what means depends on the trust in doctors and the trust of doctors in the healthcare system. My participation in the project has no commercial background, but the project requires substantial funding for quick implementation

    - For the entire history, this pandemic has united people in search of effective methods to combat the disease and its spread. Physicians are in the trenches with the simultaneous mass infection of people around the world. Developing effective methods to protect healthcare workers is one of the most important challenges, as it became clear that COVID-19 is not a one-time and not the only possible epidemiological threat in the future. Doctors do not become a doctor in a few years, each doctor has a long history of education and practical experience, so protecting the health of doctors is a priority goal of this project for me

    - Despite the technological progress in 21st century, I saw medical personnel unprotected in front of the new threat, with existing equipment inefficient, uncomfortable and often not available in needed quantities. Also, disposable masks delivers severe ecological impact with tons of wastes. The proposed solution is simple and capable of resolve both issues quick and efficient, with potential of positive contribution towards ecology by using recycled plastic for the unit's cases production

    - There are not many events in the world that can affect the humanity and at the same time touch each person individually. This has not passed me and I got a chance to see how doctors work inside hospital's "red zone" during the COVID-19 pandemic. I wondered how I can help them as an engineer.
    On the wake of the current situation many ideas for air disinfection have popped up on the market, but most of them are of questionable effectiveness.
    Having gathered a team of medics and engineers, we have an opportunity to work on the project thoroughly and carefully. Now there is a strong demand for my knowledge and professional skills in this new for me field.
    We will have to take many other aspects into account on the project run, however, there is a firm assurance in the success at the current stage when some initial steps are done
